Culatra is a small fishing community, very popular amongst vacationers during the summer months but otherwise quiet a sleepy village.
Fishing by far the main activity here. Apart from some cafes and restaurants, it's actually the only economical activity. A great place to enjoy a meal of fresh fish, of course.
There is a commercial fishing harbour in the north side of the island, offering a safe haven and protecting the boats from the fury of the ocean. Most of the boats are small, used by fishermen for daily sorties. There are a couple a bit larger, venturing farther, as far as the shores of Morocco.
Access is free so one can wander around and observe the chores of the people working there.
