Known as "Ottawa's Merchant Prince" Albert Adolphe Fournier was the founder of A.A. Fournier Limited. He operated his business for over 40 years at several locatons including in a building at Bank and Laurier designed by architect J. Albert Ewart until 1924. His business was bought out by The Canadian Department Stores Limited, and was then bought out by the T.Eaton Company in 1926, but the CDS name was kept until 1946. It operated for the next 20 years as a full fledged Eaton's store. The location was then sold to R.A. Beamish, who operated there until 1979. It is now known as the Jack Layton Building, the national headquarters of the NDP.
