W. J. Luna was the founder of the city of Plains, in 1907. He had moved to the area in 1905 and his wife died shortly afterwards; he fenced off five acres for a cemetery and she was the first to be interred there. Two bronze plaques on the brick cemetery entrance are set in honor of W. J. Luna and his son, Murphy W. Luna. They are also are interred here.
