For most of the 23 kilometres, trail users are under a canopy of ever changing forest cover. For all of the trail system, expect rugged footing with almost no straight, flat, wide sections of trail. The well maintained trails exist because of the Ottawa Mountain Bike Association (OMBA). Expect bike traffic on all trails, at all times of the day and night, and every day of the year.

There are three official access points, all on Second Line: across from the end of Klondike Road, across from Forestbrook and across from Brady. Posted co-ordinates represent the sign at the Klondike Trailhead.

This is a wild place. Geographic features are not named. Therefore, the OMBA has named various spots along the trail system, helping users to break up their journey through the forest.

Years before the OMBA arrived, I frequently explored the forest off trail and on a different trail system. In 2008, the Terry Fox Drive extension cut through the forest. This provided better access for recreational visitors to the forest. However, the forest is no longer silent. It is now rare to find a spot in the forest where there is no traffic noise from the new roads.
