Sign says:
"Completed on July 21, 1837, this Town Hall and School House was originally built on part of the present Burial Grounds adjacent to this site. The school occupied the first floor and the Town Hall the second. It was built to replace Quincy's first Town Hall, which burned in 1815, and was itself replaced in 1844 by the present Town Hall. After being moved to a site on Cddington Street in 1842, it was again moved to its present location in 1856. Henry H. Paxon purchased the building in 1857 and continued its commercial use. In 1872 and several years thereafter the District Court of East Norfolk was on the second floor in 1920. This building and one to the south were combined into one called the _____ Building, and in 1950, became known as the Burgin & Proctor Building."
The sign is on a granite building near the burial grounds. There is a Dunkin' Donuts in it, presently.

Visit Instructions:
When logging a Massachusetts Historic Marker, we ask that you not only describe your visit, but to upload a picture from it. The picture does not have to be of the marker - one picture of the marker is enough. But a photo of you standing next to the marker or a photograph the subject of the marker - those are examples of possible photographs to upload.
