He was an American businessman and Philanthropist. The Thomas S. Clarkson Memorial School of Technology (now Clarkson University) was founded in Thomas S. Clarkson's memory in 1896 by his sisters.

Description: From Find A Grave- The Thomas S. Clarkson Memorial School of Technology (now Clarkson University) was founded in Thomas S. Clarkson's memory in 1896 by his sisters, Elizabeth, Levina and Frederica.
Thomas died from injuries sustained in the Clarkson Sandstone Quarries,three miles south of the Village of Potsdam. The accident occurred when he put his life at risk to prevent injury to one of his employees. He died five days after being crushed between a swinging pump and the wall of the quarry.
