On December 28, 1989, a Beechcraft 60 Duke airplane crashed into the second story of the residence at 155 Euclid Avenue in Erie, Pennsylvania. Sadly, the pilot, Floyd Smith, and the only passenger, Elwood Graham, were killed in the crash. No one in or near the home was injured. The pilot reported briefly before the crash that the left engine was "kicking out." An investigation revealed that the probable cause of the crash was a lack of fuel in both engines, which may have resulted from "an inoperative right fuel quantity gage [sic] which resulted in inaccurate fuel consumption calculations." It is believed the pilot was attempting to make an emergency landing in nearby Lake Erie when the plan crashed into the home.
