The winery takes its name from the historic vineyard which surrounds it. The vineyard borrowed its name from the abandoned mining town at the top of the Napa Valley. Here, over a century ago Robert Louis Stevenson stayed and wrote, “The beginning of vine planting is like the beginning of mining for precious metals: the winegrower also ‘prospects’.” Four generations of Millers are still ‘prospecting’ for wine, making something beautiful from the land under their care.

Nestled in the hills on the Northwest side of the Stags Leap District, Silverado Vineyards has become an iconic estate and home to some of Napa Valley’s most-recognized wines for almost forty years.

Established in 1981, by Ron and Diane Miller and her mother, Lillian Disney, the winery was named in honor of the Silverado Vineyard -- one of the first four in Stags Leap District to plant Cabernet in the 1960s.

Today, Silverado sustainably farms 360 acres across six estate vineyards in Napa Valley. Each vineyard played an important role in establishing the reputation of its appellation: Carneros, Coombsville, Yountville and Stags Leap District.

Overall Comments::
"Best wine tasted" is based on the selection available the day we visited, as well as the weather, the company, and other factors. On another day, our favorites will most likely be different! Food can change a wine dramatically, but there was no food served at the tasting. Some wines are best served with food; others work well for sipping on their own or paired with food.

Visit Instructions:
All logs must be the result of an actual visit to the winery, wine cooperative, or wine tasting center. Any logs posted otherwise will be deleted. After your tasting list the top 2 wines you liked and rate them on a scale of 1-5 (5 is great) and the price per bottle (see winery listing for an example). Original winery lister is exempt as they listed this information on the original winery listing.
