The board provides a lot of information about the western ramparts of Oudewater. This part of the city was also called IJsselvere and was involved in the city in 1585. Just to the east of the sign was the IJsselpoort, built in 1632. Behind the sign is still a remnant of the old city moat around Oudewater. The ramparts were demolished in the 19th century. From 1589 there was also a flour mill on this spot. This mill was demolished in 1925 after a lightning strike.
