The Hill of Alyth lies to the north of the small Perthshire town of Alyth, rising to 966 feet at the summit with views to the Grampian Mountains northwards, and south over Strathmore to the Sidlaw Hills, with the Ochil Hills in the distance to the south-west.
A circular chart with features marked was created by Mr T.G. Philip MA, once on the teaching staff at Alyth School. This was placed on a plinth on the summit by Alyth Town Council on June 9th 1938.
A brass disc was in place during the 1950s, but by the 1990s the table had fallen into disrepair and in May 2010 it was rebuilt by the Alyth Hill User Group with a copy of the chart covered in plastic now placed on it. A brass plate was attached on the side of the plinth with the inscription 'The Commonty of Alyth Hill, owned for at least 600 years and for all time by the people of Alyth'
By August the plate was removed by the Forestry Commission due to the disputed ownership of the hill, but it was soon replaced again. By 2017 both the disc and plate were missing, leaving an empty plinth adjacent to the Ordnance Survey trig pillar on the summit, however by 2020 a brass disc had been installed once again with features pointed out on the 360 degree view from the summit.
