Keeping the pandemic in mind, EPS has made some decisions about how school will be held starting this next fall semester.

Sign ups for virtual classes at Edmond Public Schools starts Tuesday for parents that don’t want their children to return to class amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The district said Virtual Edmond is a mixture of traditional learning and a flexible online program. This is different from distance learning because this program offers a customized learning plan and replaces traditional in-school learning.
Any K-12 Edmond Public School student that lives in the district can enroll for free. Parents will need to submit a transfer which can be found on their website.
The district also decided its students will return to class in a traditional format in the Fall as well.
The district said it’s adding masks requirements. That means all teachers and staff, middle and high school students, and anyone that rides the bus must wear a mask. Otherwise, they’ll be turned away.
Parents will also be asked to say goodbye to their child at the door instead of walking them inside of the school.
“This will be a difficult year that will make it very hard for those first-time kindergarten parents who are dropping off,” said EPS Superintendent Bret Towne.
The board also approved time off for staff if they get COVID-19.
“Our concerns are for the students, but we have to be concerned for adults. This does affect everyone” said Lee Ann Kuhlman with the Edmond Public Schools Board of Education.
The district said the only reason it would shut down schools is if COVID-19 starts spreading out of control.
