The tower's mast stands about 300 feet above the last floor of the building. It marks the height of the building at 1776 feet. The tower is used for telecommunications as well as local radio stations as mentioned in the list below. The tower was finished in early 2013, and operations went into effect shortly after. The unique spire transmits signal to three states (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut) and serves as a symbol of American freedom hence the nickname, freedom tower.
The whole building twists to the right as it overlooks the statue of liberty and the National September 11th Memorial. The new building started construction in 2009 and completed it in 2013 with a total elevation of 1776, the year that America won its independence from Great Britain. It is now the tallest building in the city.
