The wooden font cover on the baptismal font in St. Paul’s church in Ramsey is in a simplified Gothic style.

The baptismal bowl dates from around 1874 is of carved stone. The bowl is contained within a hexagonal surround which is atop an intricately design column designed to suggest circular columns interspersed with Gaelic style chains. The font is mounted on a double hexagonal plinth. The font is at the west end of the nave and set between the two entrance doors to the north and south.

Each face of the font bowl surround has either an inscribed ihs monogram or ornate crosses. There are three possible interpretations of the 'ihs' monogram as follows:
i) it could be from the first three letters of the name 'Jesus' in Greek; or
ii) the initials of Iesus Hominum Salvator (Jesus, saviour of mankind); or
iii)In Hoc Signo (Vinces)'By this Sign (you shall conquer)'.

The font cover would have added to the mixture of styles within the Church which would have originally been a plain rectangle with a ceiling and box pews. In 1844 the north and south transepts and extra galleries were added, quite sympathetically, to provide more seating. Over the next seventy years, other changes were made to make the interior look more Gothic and less classical, influenced by the clergy who were Anglo-Catholic. The current interior mixes classical proportions and gallery-fronts with Victorian tiles, stained glass, and furnishings. Some of the woodwork has been painted white while the rest remains dark brown. The modern, light-wood nave alter add another layer.
