Gateway to the Future
Thank you to the City of Kanata
Millennium Grant Project 2000
Area Beautified by the Glen Cairn
Co-operative Preschool Inc 1999

That text is taken from the plaque on one of two benches on the lawn beside the parking lot for the Glen Cairn Co-operative Preschool. In the grass between the two benches, there are four tiles with handprints from preschool students in 2000. When placed, the benches faced a large circular sandpit which had been in Morrena Park since the 1960s.

The City of Kanata sponsored this Millennium project created by the Glen Cairn Co-operative Preschool, placing two park benches and four handprints tiles in Morrena Park. These were interesting times. By 2001, the City of Kanata no longer existed, becoming part of Ottawa.

The condition of this Millennium project will soon change from fair to poor. The plaque is barely legible. The text on the tiles has faded away. Grass is encroaching on the tiles. After fifty years, the concrete sandpit is no longer there.
