This statue of Saint Philomena is outside of Saint George Church on Peach Street in Erie, PA. The statue is along the border of the parking lot with four other statues of saints. The statue depicts Saint Philomena with her arms crossed over her chest, holding a palm branch, which represents martyrdom.
Saint Philomena was a young virgin who was martyred during the reign of the emperor Diocletian. Her remains were discovered in a Roman catacomb in the 19th century. Since then, devotion to this saint has spread throughout the world and many miracles have been attributed to her intercession.
