This is one of many aircraft displays on the USS intrepid. Space Shuttle Enterprise was a flying prototype of the Space Shuttle. It was named for the USS Enterprise after thousands of letters were sent to the White House demanding for it.

This is the new resting home of the Enterprise, the prototype for the space shuttle. Originally tested over Edwards Air force Base in California, this mock-up for the shuttle help paved the way for the new program into space flight.
