The parish of Tealing is situated in the county of Angus, four miles to the north of the city of Dundee at the foot of the southern flank of the Sidlaw Hills. Its main settlement is at Tealing itself, no more than a small village. Around half a mile to the west, at the junction of the School Road is the war memorial, unveiled around 1920 to commemorate the fallen of WWI.

The memorial takes the form of a tapering rustic pedestal and column, surmounted by a small cross. The inscription reads as follows:

'IN GRATEFUL REMEMBRANCE OF THE MEN OF TEALING WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-18 AND THE WORLD WAR 1939-1945'

On two panels are inscribed eleven names and rank:

'Pte. JOSEPH BARRIE
Pte. JAMES BRUCE
Pte. JOHN CAMERON
Lieut. ARCHIBALD W.R. DON
Lieut. ROBt. McPHERSON DON
Gnr. ROBERT MARR
Pte. JAMES MORRISON
Pte. WILLIAM PHILIP
Pte. ALEXr. URQUHART
Pte. DAVID URQUHART
L-CPL DAVID N. WINTER'

Five names and rank are also inscribed from WWII. The memorial was cleaned in 2008 and a fence which surrounded it on the roadside was replaced by a dry-stane dyke.
