In front of Ely Campus Center on the grounds of Westfield State University is a beautifully done 6' tall wood carving of the school mascot, a great horned owl. The sculpture was created from a reclaimed section of Eastern White Pine by award winning artist Ken Packie the owner of Berkshire Mountain Sculpture. The owl is depicted perched on a tree stump. The owl was installed in early May 2019 as a gift from the class of 2019.

A bronze plaque at the base of the statue is inscribed:
