County of center: Callaway County
Location of center: CR 184 & Douglas St., Williamsburg
Built: 1884
Building built in 1884, I cannot believe it was built as a community center way-back-then...BUT, I cannot run down what was the original use of this structure.
The set of the windows on the side of the building, and the pitch of the roof with a "foyer" style structure at the front, it make one jump to the conclusion that it was built originally as a church of some flavor.
BUT - neither is no proof one way or the other.
After a hour of rummaging through trash and jetsam on the web, I ran into this:
"The Williamsburg Community Club, which is housed in the old Methodist Church building whose congregation
had served the community from before 1884 until 1951" ~ Kingdom of Callaway Historical Society
From a town (village) this small pickings are slim - but still some activity:
4H Club:
Williamsburg Pioneers Club meets on the third Wednesday of every month at the Williamsburg Community Center.
Club leaders: Jodi Selby, drygulchranch@yahoo.com or 573-254-3067; Melissa Gilman, mgilman@ktis.net or 573-254-3936
This facility is used for voting in this town
An any town worth its salt would have a smorgasboard
