EN: This wayside cross stands on Chillweg in the west of Oberwil.
It is a simple stone cross on a stone foundation of about three and a half meters hight. INRI is engraved on the tip, the year 1838 on the side arms. The side arms are unusually short and also slightly higher than usual.
The cross stands next to the cemetery. But this is much newer than the cross. The cross was certainly well over a hundred years old when the cemetery was moved from the churchyard to the edge of the village (I suspect in 1957, at least that is the year the cemetery chapel was built).
DE: Dieses Wegkreuz steht am Chillweg im Wessten von Oberwil.
Es ist ein einfaches Steinkreuz von etwa dreieinhalb Metern Höhe, das auf einem Steinfundament steht. An der Spitze ist INRI eingraviert, an den Seitenarmen die Jahreszahl 1838. Die Seitenarme sind ungewöhnlich kurz und auch etwas höher angebracht als üblich.
Das Kreuz steht neben dem Friedhof. Dieser ist aber viel neuer als das Kreuz. Das Kreuz war bestimmt schon weit über hundert Jahre alt, als der Friedhof vom Kirchhof an den Dorfrand verlegt wurde (ich vermute 1957, jedenfalls ist das Das Baujahr der Friedhofskapelle).
