De Grote kerk van Gorinchem staat op de Groenmarkt in het oude centrum van de stad Gorinchem, in de Nederlandse provincie Zuid-Holland. De Grote Kerk is tegen de Grote Toren aangebouwd die in de volksmond 'Sint-Janstoren' wordt genoemd. De kerk is in gebruik door de PKN door de Protestantse Wijkgemeente Grote Kerk. Op de plaats waar het huidige kerkgebouw staat, bevond zich een Gotische hallenkerk, de kerk werd op 22 april 1263 gewijd aan Sint Martinus of Sint-Johannes. De toren wordt in elk geval Johannes toren genoemd in de volksmond. Na de reformatie in de tweede helft van de 16de eeuw, werd het gebouw alleen simpelweg Grote Kerk genoemd.
In de winter van 1813-1814 werd het gebouw zwaar beschoten. De Fransen waren in de stad, en de Russen en Pruisen lagen op de Merwede. De kerk werd daarna alleen nog met mooi weer gebruikt. Op 31 augustus 1844 moest de kerk wegens bouwvalligheid gesloten worden op last van Burgemeester en Wethouders. Niet lang daarna werd het gebouw afgebroken. Architect Warnsinck uit Amsterdam kreeg opdracht een nieuw kerkgebouw te ontwerpen. Hij voerde de opdracht uit met zijn leerling Abraham Nicolaas Godefroy. Het werd een 3-beukig kerkgebouw in Romaanse en classicistische stijl, wat tegen de Grote- of Sint-Janstoren uit de 15de eeuw werd gebouwd. Op 4 mei 1851 kon deze protestantse kerk in gebruik worden genomen voor de eredienst.
De toren is waarschijnlijk na een brand in 1361 ingestort. De huidige toren is 67 m hoog en werd rond 1450 gebouwd aan de westzijde van de kerk. De spits werd voltooid in 1517. De nieuwe, Grote Sint-Janstoren zoals hij in de volksmond wordt genoemd, kreeg al tijdens de bouw te maken met verzakkingen waardoor er een vreemde knik in de toren is ontstaan. Het bouwwerk staat ruim anderhalve meter uit het lood. De toren werd uitgebreid gerestaureerd tussen 1941 en 1950. Hij kan beklommen worden, bovenaan heeft men een fraai uitzicht op de binnenstad van Gorinchem en de wijde omgeving. Het is een Rijksmonument.

The Grote Kerk van Gorinchem is located on the Groenmarkt in the old center of the city of Gorinchem, in the Dutch province of South Holland. The Grote Kerk is built against the Grote Toren which is popularly called 'Sint-Janstoren'. The church is used by the PKN by the Protestant District Church Grote Kerk. On the site of the current church building was a Gothic hall church, the church was dedicated on April 22, 1263 to Saint Martin or Saint John. The structure is more than a meter and a half out of plumb. The tower was extensively restored between 1941 and 1950. It can be climbed, at the top you have a beautiful view of the city of Gorinchem and the surrounding area. It is a national monument.
