15th century rood screen in St Ethelbert's church, Hessett. The intricately carved tracery is elegantly painted and gilt, and the dado panels on the west side are decorated with friezes of birds. The rood screen has been fitted with attractive iron gates, presumably evidence of Anglo-catholic enthusiasm here in the early 20th century, and you step down through them into the light.
In the south chancel arch are the stairs to the long gone rood loft.
