This mural was created by local children and is entitled Our Island Neighborhood. In collaboration with Art in Public Places and Eckerd Drugstores (now CVS), 60 Monroe County school children had the opportunity to study the life and works of Mario Sanchez, Key West's son and greatest Cuban-American folk artist. They then created a Sanchez-like mosaic scene on the wall of a building on Wall Street in downtown Key West.
The mural depicts many children in different activities and games, several different animal species plus two houses, a church, a lighthouse, trees and clouds in a general atmosphere of joy and pleasure.
On the right side of the mural are the names of the children and artists who contributed to its creation, as well as those of the sponsors.
