De synagoge van Bourtange in de Oost-Groningse vestingplaats Bourtange is gebouwd in 1842.

De joodse gemeenschap in Bourtange beschikte al voor 1842 over een plaats van samenkomst. Aanvankelijk was dat in de 18e eeuw in de vorm van een huissynagoge. Later kreeg men de beschikking over een zelfstandige synagoge als plaats van samenkomst. Tot 1842 leverde dat regelmatig problemen op vanwege de slechte staat van de gebruikte gebouwen. In 1842 kon de synagoge in de Batterijstraat worden gebouwd. Achter dit gebouw werd de onderwijzerswoning gerealiseerd.

In de Tweede Wereldoorlog is de Joodse bevolking van Bourtange grotendeels naar Polen gedeporteerd en daar vermoord. Vier personen hebben de oorlog als onderduiker overleefd en een persoon is teruggekomen uit Auschwitz - Birkenau.

Bij de reconstructie van de Vesting Bourtange heeft de Stichting Vesting Bourtange de synagoge in 1969 gekocht en deze laten restaureren en in 1974 in gebruik genomen als voorlichtingscentrum. Vanaf die tijd gingen er steeds meer stemmen op om het gebouw weer als synagoge in te richten. De synagoge en de onderwijzerswoning werden gerestaureerd en ingericht als Joods Synagogaal Museum. De namen van de vermoorde joden uit Bourtange zijn op een plaquette aan de buitenmuur van het museum te vinden.

The Bourtange synagogue in the East Groningen fortified town of Bourtange was built in 1842.

The Jewish community in Bourtange already had a meeting place before 1842. Initially that was in the form of a house synagogue in the 18th century. Later, an independent synagogue was made available as a meeting place. Until 1842 this regularly caused problems because of the poor condition of the buildings used. In 1842 the synagogue in the Batterijstraat could be built. The teacher's home was built behind this building.

During World War II, the Jewish population of Bourtange was largely deported to Poland and murdered there. Four persons survived the war in hiding and one person returned from Auschwitz - Birkenau.

When the Bourtange Fortress was reconstructed, the Vesting Bourtange Foundation bought the synagogue in 1969 and had it restored and in 1974 it was used as an information center. From that time on, more and more voices arose to refurbish the building as a synagogue. The synagogue and the teacher's home were restored and furnished as a Jewish Synagogue Museum. The names of the murdered Jews from Bourtange can be found on a plaque on the outer wall of the museum.
