Rood screen dado in All Saints' church, Hitcham. Often overlooked due to the rather grand chancel.

Only the dado survives, but it is worth a look. Instead of saints the panels depict angels holding the instruments of the Passion.

They were vandalised in the 16th century reformation. A surprising survival. Presumably they were moved to their present position at the time of the 19th century reordering of this church. When Arthur Mee (visit link) came here in the 1930s, he could barely make out the figures, and thought they were saints. They have been restored, probably under the influence of Munro Cautley (visit link) when he was diocesan architect.
