The bridge is a stone built road bridge that carries Church Stile over the River Rothay in the village of Grasmere.

The Grade II listed bridge is located near to St Oswald's Church and Grasmere Tea Gardens.

The description given by Historic England reads as follows;

'1. 1291A GRASMERE Bridge beside St Oswald's Church NY 30 NW 7/52 II GV 2. Widened in C20. Single segmental arch of local slate rubble, with a slightly arched parapet. Date uncertain. For group notes see General group description under Grasmere.

A stone that is inserted on the bridge gives the information that the bridge was widened in 1926 by Westmorland County Council.

The stone is inscribed as follows;

CHURCH BRIDGE
WIDENED 1926.


The bridge can be seen from the Wordsworth Daffodil Garden that is located behind the graveyard of St Oswald's Church. The entrance to the garden is located adjacent to the Grasmere Ginger Bread Shop and can be entered for free.
