For 5,000 years this plateau was a favoured portage and camp site for Aboriginal peoples. Located at the foot of major rapids on the St. Lawrence River, this was a key food-gathering location and once bustled with the activities of daily life. Thousands of preserved bones of many species attest to the importance of fishing here, especially during the Late Middle Woodland Period (500 1000 AD) when this site was most intensively inhabited. The rich archaeological record has made this place a vital resource for understanding Aboriginal history in this region.
