Het gebouw:
Aan de ring in Dreischor treft u op nr. 2 het voormalige ‘plaetsenhuys’, raadhuisje dat werd gebouwd in 1637.
Het devies ‘Doet wel en vreest niemant’ wordt rechts geflankeerd door het wapen van Jan Stavenisse, die geboren werd in 1590, en baljuw was van 1620 tot aan zijn overlijden in 1645. Dit wapen, dat symbolisch water voorstelt vergezeld van turven, duidt op het beroep van de stamvader, die voor 1400 bij Beldert fortuin maakte met de selnering (zoutwinning).
Het wapen links was wellicht van de secretaris. In het midden van de gevel ziet u links het wapen van Zeeland, rechts het wapen van Dreischor en in het midden vrouwe Justisia. Dit verwijst naar de rechtspraak. Dreischor was eertijds een Hoge Heerlijkheid waar de vierschaar recht sprak en zelfs de doodstraf mocht toepassen. In 1521 werden twee personen geëxecuteerd en in 1695 werd Joris Pieterse wegens ‘bloedschande’ verbrand. In 1696 werd Laurens de Vos gebrandmerkt omdat hij zijn vrouw had verlaten en haar kleding had meegenomen.
Op de top van de fraaie trapgevel is een kloek gesmede aardbol met bliksem schichten aangebracht. Boven het zolderraampje hangt de bel, die op zondagmorgen na de kerkdienst werd geluid, om de bevolking bijeen te roepen, om de afkondiging van huwelijk of verkoping aan te horen. Naast het poortje hangt de standaard-el, waaraan de plaatselijke lengtematen werden geijkt. Sinds 1995 wordt het pand als woonhuis gebruikt.

Dreischor (Zeeuws: Dreister) is een ringdorp in de gemeente Schouwen-Duiveland, in de Nederlandse provincie Zeeland. Het dorp heeft 985 inwoners (1 januari 2019) die Reisenaers genoemd worden. Dreischor is vanaf 1973 een beschermd dorpsgezicht en daarmee een van de beschermde stads- en dorpsgezichten in Zeeland. In 2001 werd het dorp verkozen tot 'Groenste dorp van Europa'.

The building:
At the ring in Dreischor you will find at no. 2 the former "plaetsenhuys", town hall that was built in 1637.
The motto 'Does well and fear no one' is flanked on the right by the coat of arms of Jan Stavenisse, who was born in 1590, and was bailiff from 1620 until his death in 1645. This coat of arms, which symbolically represents water accompanied by peat, indicates the profession of the ancestor, who made fortune with Beldert before 1400 with the selnering (salt extraction).
The weapon on the left may have belonged to the secretary. In the middle of the facade you see the coat of arms of Zeeland on the left, the coat of arms of Dreischor on the right and Lady Justisia in the middle. This refers to the administration of justice. Dreischor used to be a High Glory where the four scissors judged and even allowed to use the death penalty. In 1521 two persons were executed and in 1695 Joris Pieterse was burned for "mortal shame". In 1696 Laurens de Vos was branded for leaving his wife and taking her clothes with him.
On the top of the beautiful stepped gable is a sturdy forged globe with lightning bolts. Above the attic window is the bell that rang after the church service on Sunday morning to call the people to hear the announcement of marriage or auctions. Next to the gate hangs the standard cubit, to which the local length measurements have been calibrated. The building has been used as a residential home since 1995.

The city:
Dreischor (Zeeuws: Dreister) is a ring village in the municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland, in the Dutch province of Zeeland. The village has 985 inhabitants (January 1, 2019) which are called Reisenaers. Dreischor has been a protected village view since 1973 and is therefore one of the protected city and village views in Zeeland. In 2001, the village was voted 'Greenest Village in Europe'.
