"Music, Art, and Academics" was created by Melissa Stratton Pandina as part of the expansion of the Electrify Amherst program commissioned by the Amherst Public Art Commission. The east side of the utility box features a person sitting on the ground while playing a guitar. The background contains a musical score. The artist's MSP monogram appears on the lower left corner.
The north side contains a continuation of the musical score and the start of a flowing list of names of famous and not-so-famous writers. The list of names continues on the street side which contains an image of a pensive woman who is kneeling on a bed of flowers. She has an open book in her left hand and a pencil in her right hand. The list of names continue on the south side intertwined with a musical score.
