With the coronavirus pandemic ruining graduation for seniors across Oklahoma, a local church is stepping up to make it a day to remember for 12 seniors.
Several cars drove by New Hope Baptist Church, near Northeast Eighth Street and Lincoln Boulevard in Oklahoma City, on Saturday, showing love to students who weren't able to get a traditional graduation ceremony. The Rev. E. Jennings Tyson told KOCO 5 that he wanted to do something special for the teenagers after all they've been through -- quarantine, learning from home and preparing for the next chapters of their lives.
"We're trying to be creative in our own way," Tyson said. "We're just grateful that God has allowed us to show love, and I try to challenge these young people like I try to challenge our congregation that every setback is an opportunity for a comeback."
Tyson also said the 12 graduates come from all over Oklahoma, so it took some time coordinating the event, but they deserve it.
