This beautiful old park dates back to 1900. Britannia Park was created as a resort destination for the recently formed Ottawa Electric Railway (OER). The OER made money by taking residents from downtown Ottawa to this place of escape. The original street-car station survives on site.
The park's main attraction is Britannia Beach. Posted co-ordinates are for the lifesaving station on Britannia Beach.
Britannia Park is a large park (more than 87 acres). The park sign on Carling Avenue is 1000 metres from the end of the pier. The municipal web site assigns the street address as 2805 Carling Avenue but the sign on site says 100 Greenview Avenue.
In recent years, some members of the Friends of Britannia Park have efficiently removed traditional geocaches from the park.
Some elements of the park remind me of parks of long ago. There are playgrounds with play structures from different eras. There are fireplaces. Apparently, some fireplace and picnic areas can still be reserved by groups and families.
There seem to be countless opportunities for recreational activities. There are three baseball parks. There are seven outdoor tennis courts as well as an indoor, year-round tennis facility.
For me, this is waymark #1900.
