This Czechoslovak post stamp issued in 1968, from series devoted to the coats of arms of Czechoslovak towns, depicts CoA of Moravian metropolis Brno. The waymarked CoA is located aside of the main entrance portal to the complex of the City New town hall (Magistrát mesta Brna) on Dominican Square (Dominikánské námestí).

The large Baroque complex on Dominikánské Square, former Dominican monastery and later Regional Moravian government and nowadays seat of Brno Town Council (Magistrát mesta Brna), is one of architectonic landmarks of the Moravian metropolis.

Brno (German: Brünn) is a city in the South Moravian Region of Czechia. Located at the confluence of the Svitava and Svratka rivers, Brno has about 400,000 inhabitants, making it the second-largest city in the Czech Republic after the capital, Prague. Its metropolitan area has around 1,183,207 inhabitants. Brno is the centre of the Czech judiciary, with the seats of the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court, the Supreme Administrative Court, and the Supreme Public Prosecutor's Office, and a number of state authorities, including the Ombudsman, and the Office for the Protection of Competition. Brno is also an important centre of higher education, with 33 faculties belonging to 13 institutes of higher education and about 89,000 students. [wiki]
