Der Planetenweg Erftstadt ist ein Modell unseres Sonnensystems im Maßstab von 1:1 Milliarde. Die neun Planeten des Systems sowie die Sonne selber sind an Stationen entlang einer alten Römerstraße ausgestellt, die früher von Trier bis nach Köln führte.

Jede Planetenstation beinhaltet eine Stele aus Beton mit einem Loch, in dem sich ein Modell des jeweiligen Planeten aus Edelstahl befindet. Daneben befindet sich jeweils eine Sitzbank sowie eine Tafel mit Informationen zu dem Planeten und dem Planetenweg. Sowohl die Größe der Plantenmodelle als auch der Abstand zueinander sind maßstabsgetreu, so dass der gesamte Plantenweg eine Länge von etwa 6 Kilometer hat. Die äußerste Station (Pluto) liegt östlich von Erftstadt-Erp, die Sonne ist auf einem Hügel im Gesundheitsgarten in Erftstadt-Liblar zu finden.

Diese Station zeigt den Planeten Saturn und liegt nördlich des Gewerbegebiets Lechenich auf einer Wiese zwischen einer Landstraße und einem Feldweg. Der Saturn ist nach Jupiter der zweitgrößte und durch seine Ringe der auffälligste Planet unseres Sonnensystems. Während der Planet aus Gasen besteht und keine feste Oberfläche hat, bestehen die Ringe aus festen Materialien wie Stein und Eis. Die Ringe des Planeten sind auch im hier gezeigten Planetenmodell angedeutet, leider ist die Stele rings herum aber mit Graffiti beschmiert worden.

The planetary trail of Erftstadt is a model of our solar system on a scale of 1:1 billion. The nine planets of the system as well as the sun itself are exhibited at stations along an old Roman road that used to go from Trier to Cologne.

Each planet station contains a concrete stele with a hole in which a model of the respective planet is made of stainless steel. Next to it is a bench and a board with information about the planet and the planetary trail. Both the size of the planet models and the distance from each other are to scale, so that the entire planetary trail is about 6 kilometers long. The outermost station (Pluto) is east of Erftstadt-Erp, the sun can be found on a hill in the park Gesundheitsgarten in Erftstadt-Liblar.

This station shows the planet Saturn and is located north of the Lechenich industrial estate on a meadow between a country road and a dirt road. Saturn is the second largest after Jupiter and, thanks to its rings, the most striking planet in our solar system. While the planet is made of gases and has no solid surface, the rings are made of solid materials such as stone and ice. The rings of the planet are also indicated in the planet model shown here, but unfortunately the stele around was smeared with graffiti.
