Der Planetenweg Erftstadt ist ein Modell unseres Sonnensystems im Maßstab von 1:1 Milliarde. Die neun Planeten des Systems sowie die Sonne selber sind an Stationen entlang einer alten Römerstraße ausgestellt, die früher von Trier bis nach Köln führte.

Jede Planetenstation beinhaltet eine Stele aus Beton mit einem Loch, in dem sich ein Modell des jeweiligen Planeten aus Edelstahl befindet. Daneben befindet sich jeweils eine Sitzbank sowie eine Tafel mit Informationen zu dem Planeten und dem Planetenweg. Sowohl die Größe der Plantenmodelle als auch der Abstand zueinander sind maßstabsgetreu, so dass der gesamte Plantenweg eine Länge von etwa 6 Kilometer hat. Die äußerste Station (Pluto) liegt östlich von Erftstadt-Erp, die Sonne ist auf einem Hügel im Gesundheitsgarten in Erftstadt-Liblar zu finden.

Dies ist der Anfang des Planetenwegs und zeigt als einzige Station keinen Planeten sondern den Mittelpunkt unseres Sonnensystems. Die Sonne besteht größtenteils aus Wasserstoff und Helium, deren chemische Reaktion große Mengen an Energie in Form von Licht, Wärme und Röntgenstrahlung freisetzt. Somit ist sie die Grundlage allen Lebens. Ihre Masse ist zudem so groß, dass ihre Gravitation die Planeten unseres Planetensystems auf ihrer Umlaufbahn hält.

Dargestellt wird die Sonne hier maßstabsgetreu als 140 cm große, gelbe Kugel "aufgespießt" auf drei Metallstangen. Durch die Lage auf einem kleinen Hügel im Gesundheitsgarten scheint sie in der Luft zu schweben. Der Gesundheitsgarten ist ein öffentlicher, kleiner Park auf der Rückseite des Marien-Hospitals in Erftstadt-Liblar.

The planetary trail of Erftstadt is a model of our solar system on a scale of 1:1 billion. The nine planets of the system as well as the sun itself are exhibited at stations along an old Roman road that used to go from Trier to Cologne.

Each planet station contains a concrete stele with a hole in which a model of the respective planet is made of stainless steel. Next to it is a bench and a board with information about the planet and the planetary trail. Both the size of the planet models and the distance from each other are to scale, so that the entire planetary trail is about 6 kilometers long. The outermost station (Pluto) is east of Erftstadt-Erp, the sun can be found on a hill in the park Gesundheitsgarten in Erftstadt-Liblar.

This is the first station of the planetary trail and shows as the only station not a planet but the center of our solar system. The sun consists mostly of hydrogen and helium, the chemical reaction of which releases large amounts of energy in the form of light, heat and X-rays. Thus, it is the basis of all life. It's mass is also so large that it's gravity keeps the planets of our planet system in their orbit.

The sun is shown here to scale as a 140 cm yellow ball "impaled" on three metal rods. Due to its location on a small hill in the Gesundheitsgarten, it seems to float in the air. The Gesundheitsgarten is a small public park at the back of the Marien Hospital in Erftstadt-Liblar.
