This tree can be found in front of the Mechanical Engineering Building at the University of Birmingham where Bashir Osman studied when he was a student at the University.

The tree is identified by a staked rectangular board in front of the tree which has the follow text:

'In Loving Memory of
Bashir Osman
1988 - 2015'

At the time of his death Bashir was 26-years old and was the president of the Federation of Islamic Societies, which is the umbrella organisation for the UK's university and college students.

In was immensely popular not only with students but with Islamic communities and a measure of his popularity can be gauged by the attendance of over 6,000 mourners at his funeral.

Bashir Osman died on 4 July 2015, in a river in the Landquart District of Graubuden, in Switzerland, after entering the water for a swim and being swept away by a freak current.
