Aan de Kromme Wijk in Stadskanaal stond het boerderijtje van de familie Drenth.
Zij hielpen tijdens WOII 16 onderduikers (13 Groninger Joden, 2 uit Duitsland gevluchte dwangarbeiders en
een gedeserteerde Oostenrijkse soldaat) aan vervolging te ontkomen, en zij hebben het allen overleefd.
Op de plek waar het huisje stond, herinnert niets meer aan deze onbaatzuchtige daad van hulp aan wie dat toen nodig hadden.

Het ontwerp van 21 gebogen stalen platen symboliseert alle 21 mensen die op het moment van de bevrijding in het kleine huis leefden.

In 1979 werd Hindertje Drenth-van der Sluis onderscheiden als Rechtvaardige onder de Volkeren.
Willem Drenth, overleden in 1964, ontving dit eerbetoon postuum.

The Drenth family's farm was located on the Kromme Wijk in Stadskanaal.
During WWII they helped to escape persecution for 16 people in hiding (13 Groningen Jews, 2 forced laborers who fled Germany
and a deserted Austrian soldier), and they all survived.
In the place where the house stood, nothing remembers this selfless act of help to those who needed it then.

The design of 21 bent steel plates symbolizes all 21 people who lived in the small house at the time of the liberation.

In 1979 Hindertje Drenth-van der Sluis was distinguished as Righteous among the Nations.
Willem Drenth, who died in 1964, received this tribute posthumously.
