Findagrave notes that he was Abe Lincoln McInnish, and interesting name to have in this part of the country. The dove of peace is at the top on the front of the headstone, flying above a ribbon and the word "Hope". In its place on the three other sides are flowers, possibly calla lilies. There is a decorative ribbon around the perimeter below the dove and flowers, and the family name, "McInnish", is on the plinth. The inscription is below the emblem for the Modern Woodmen of America, and it reads:

Abe L.
McInnish

Dec. 5, 1878
Apr. 21, 1922

The Modern Woodmen of America (MWA) is a fraternal benefits society that was founded by Joseph Cullen Root in 1883. Interestingly, Root was kicked out of his own organization, and he founded the Modern Woodmen of the World in 1890. That organization is best known as the Woodmen of the World, but over time, they have become WoodmenLife. Both ultimately have the same purpose: To provide for families left behind after the death of a breadwinner. While monuments placed by the Woodmen of the World are much more common than those placed by the Modern Woodmen of America, the MWA's emblem -- an ax and mallet crossed upon a leaf, with the letters "MWA" -- can be seen on the occasional tree trunk, and like the Woodmen of the World, their emblems can be found on headstones of varying shapes and sizes.
