"Right on this road, 2.8m., to OLD MESILLA (3,857 alt., 606 pop), whose old plaza and surrounding flat-topped adobe houses sleep in the sun, dreaming of the days, when this was the capital od a vast new state that combined the lower part of New Mexico with all of Arizona..."
