Né à Dorchester, Landry étudia à Memramcook et fut le premier Acadien admis au barreau du Nouveau-Brunswick. Il défendit les Acadiens qui avaient participé à l'émeute de Caraquet en 1875. Député à l'Assemblée législative de 1870 à 1874, ministre en 1878, il fut élu en 1883 à la Chambre des communes où il siégea jusqu'en 1890. Premier Acadien à devenir en 1893 juge à la Cour Suprême du Nouveau-Brunswick, il fut promu Juge en chef de la Province en 1913. Landry, par son action politique modérée, ouvrit des voies jusque-là fermées à ses compatriotes.

Born at Dorchester and educated at this college, Landry was the first Acadian called to the New Brunswick bar. After serving as M.L.A. (1870-74) he defended, in 1875, the Acadians charged in the Caraquet riots. Subsequently he joined the provincial cabinet (1878-83) and sat in the House of Commons (1883-90). In 1893 he became the first Acadian named to the Supreme Court of New Brunswick, eventually becoming Senior Judge of the Court of King's Bench. A Conservative and prudent man, Landry, by his policies and example, opened many hitherto closed doors to the Acadians of New Brunswick. He died at Dorchester.

Sir Pierre-Amand Landry was knighted in June 1916, the first and only Acadian to be so honoured.
