Après de nombreuses demandes, grâce à l’action de Gabriel Rémy Fourcroy, premier maire de la commune, de 1856 à 1870, ils obtinrent enfin la construction d’un brise-lames, dénommé plus tard, Epi, édifié de 1867 à 1870. Enraciné dans la falaise, à l’emplacement de l’ancienne pointe de la « Violette », il s’étendait sur une longueur de 140 mètres et sa hauteur était de 8 mètres à l’extrémité, le niveau du sable étant beaucoup plus bas, à l’époque… Furent aménagées des voûtes, espacées de 4 mètres tout le long de l'ouvrage, sans doute pour atténuer la force des vagues et éviter l’ensablement.

L'avènement de la vapeur et le développement du port de Boulogne provoquèrent après 1900 l’extinction de la pêche porteloise. Au fil du temps, l’épi, cassant d’être entretenu, se dégrade. Il fut partiellement reconstitué et protégé par, des enrochements à partir des années 80. Il fait désormais partie du site et reste un des témoins de notre passé maritime.

After many requests, thanks to the action of Gabriel Rémy Fourcroy, first mayor of the town, from 1856 to 1870, they finally obtained the construction of a breakwater, later named, Epi, built from 1867 to 1870. Rooted in the cliff, at the site of the old "Violette" point, it extended over a length of 140 meters and its height was 8 meters at the end, the level of the sand being much lower, at the time… There were vaults, spaced 4 meters along the length of the structure, no doubt to attenuate the force of the waves and avoid the silting up.

The advent of steam and the development of the port of Boulogne led to the extinction of fishing in the city after 1900. Over time, the spike, breaking from being cared for, deteriorates. It was partially reconstructed and protected by rockfill from the 80s. It is now part of the site and remains one of the witnesses of our maritime past.
