Le drapeau acadien est proposé par Marcel-François Richard, prêtre catholique et pédagogue, lors de la deuxième Convention nationale acadienne, tenue à Miscouche, à l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard. Ses couleurs rappellent celui de la France, l’étoile jaune représentant Notre-Dame de l’Assomption, la patronne des Acadiens.

The Acadian flag was proposed by Marcel-François Richard, Catholic priest and educator, during the second Acadian National Convention, held in Miscouche, Prince Edward Island. Its colors are reminiscent of France, the yellow star representing Our Lady of the Assumption, patron saint of the Acadians.
