Kingwood is a 14,000 acre master-planned community located in NE Houston, TX. Situated within the vast pine forest covering most of the Eastern part of Texas, this suburban -- mostly residential -- community is locally referred to as "The Livable Forest".
The time capsule is located in a small park just South of the Kingwood Community Center, a converted old library where many local meetings and voting activities occur.
It was buried in 1986 -- about 15 years after the master-planned community officially started -- and is to be opened on Oct 11th, 2071: the community's 100th anniversary.
The plaque over the time capsule reads as follows:
THIS TIME CAPSULE IS TO BE OPENED
ON KINGWOOD'S 100TH ANNIVERSARY,
OCTOBER 11, 2071. THE CONTENTS
HEREIN CONVEY THE ESSENCE OF
LIFE IN THE LIVABLE FOREST AS
IT WAS DURING KINGWOOD'S FIRST
FIFTEEN YEARS.
