Smedjen har først fungeret som almindelig landsbysmedje med skoning af heste og fremstilling af plove og hestevogne i samarbejde med naboen, som var karetmager. Med tiden blev dog kunstsmedningen den altdominerende aktivitet. Hudevad Smedje lukkede i 1971.
Hudevad Smedje er den landsbysmedje, der i første halvdel af 1900 tallet udviklede sig til Hudevad Radiatorfabrik. Museet rummer et arbejdende værksted, hvor der er ild i essen og hvor hammer og ambolt giver genlyd. I tilknytning hertil er en udstilling, der fortæller historien fra landsbysmedje til industrivirksomhed og historien om en kunstsmed.


The smithy has started as a regular blacksmith, who among other things made horseshoes. The blacksmith Hans Rasmussen was very skilled. He therefore began to make lamps, weather taps, candlesticks and much else.
The smithy is now a museum.
Visit the working smithy. There is fire in the forge, the sound of hammer against anvil rings out, and the blacksmiths tell stories of the olden days. The smithy in hudevad is a unique piece of culture, from the time when the art of the blacksmith was replaced by industry.
