This pair of marble markers is found just inside the entrance to Cairo Cemetery, near a flagpole and a small pavilion. The "old" marker gives a brief history of Cairo Cemetery. A newer, smaller marble marker provides an update to the current status of the cemetery.

The marker text is

CAIRO CEMETERY

With the burial of Grandma Nolan in 1898
Cairo Cemetery was established. Ned and
Bert Marcum were the original property
owners of the Marcum Cemetery until the
couple donated ten acres to the Cairo
School District #24 in 1917. In 1954 the
Cairo and Cottonwood school districts were
consolidated and Cottonwood School
District currently owns the cemetery.

This marker was erected by
Carl and Patricia McEntire in 1998.
Donated by Ada Custom Memorials

The new marker at the base of the old one reads

On August 3rd 2000 the Cottonwood
School District No 4 deeded the
Cairo Cemetery to the Cairo Cemetery
Association, a nonprofit volunteer organization
