American LaFrance was one of the first companies to build fire-fighting equipment in the United States, with roots going back to 1832. The American LaFrance Fire Engine Company was formed in 1903. Some of the company's innovations led to changes in the industry, most notably their cab-forward design. The company ceased operations in 2014.

The 800-series pump truck was constructed from 1956 to 1958 and is typical of the "classical" style of American LaFrance fire trucks. This example appears to be a 1956 open-top truck. The red truck bears number 23 and is from the Arlington Fire Department. The truck is behind a fence, and there is no signage to identify the truck further.
