The final resting place of centenarian Effie T. Signs is at the southwest side of Summit View Cemetery.

Effie was married to Charles M. Signs for 46 years, and she outlived him by 25 years. Charles, a World War I veteran, is buried nearby.

1892: The Pledge of Allegiance is first recited in the United States.
1902: Real Madrid CF is founded as Madrid Football Club.
1912: Alaska becomes a territory of the United States.
1922: In The Bronx, construction begins on Yankee Stadium.
1932: Charles Lindbergh Jr., the infant son of Anne Morrow Lindbergh and Charles Lindbergh, is kidnapped from the family home near Hopewell, New Jersey.
1942: Start, led by the goalkeeper Nikolai Trusevich, play football against the German Luftwaffe team Flakelf in Nazi-occupied Kiev. Against all odds, they win 5–3. Eight of them are later arrested and tortured, and at least four are killed.
1952: West Germany has 8 million refugees inside its borders.
1962: Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev first dance together in a Royal Ballet performance of Giselle, in London.
1972: The first Boston Marathon in which women are officially allowed to compete.
1982: The 54th Academy Awards, hosted by Johnny Carson, are held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles. Chariots of Fire wins Best Picture and 3 other Academy Awards.
1993: Super Bowl XXVII: The Buffalo Bills become the first team to lose three consecutive Super Bowls as they are defeated by the Dallas Cowboys, 52–17.
