This is a segment of the shielding used to build the second, 1994 St. Clair Tunnel.

More information about the tunnel itself can be found on Waymarks specific to the tunnel, Wikipedia, and elsewhere on the internet.

The second tunnel was built using a tunnel boring machine called the Excalibore made by the Lovat Tunnel Equipment Inc. It was started on the Canadian side and dug its way to the U.S.

The second tunnel, built to handle larger, current rail cars, replaces the original 1891 tunnel which now sits disused.

In front of this segment of tunnel shielding is a plaque commemorating two eminent civil engineers who were responsible for the two St. Clair Tunnels. The original tunnel is represented by Joseph Hobson (1934-1917) and the second tunnel by Duncan MacLennan.

Type: Triumphal (Monument/Memorial)

Subtype: Other

Location: Sarnia Railway Station
