During the Second World War, about 6,000 military aircraft crashed above the Netherlands. More than 1,000 of these ended up in North Brabant. This concerns both Allied (British, American and Canadian aircraft with crews of many more nationalities) and German aircraft.
The Allied planes were very often bombers hit by German anti-aircraft guns (the so-called Flak) during bombing missions on targets in Germany or intercepted by German fighter aircraft
