The story is that Mr. Thompson was looking for a place to water his horses in this area, so he established a settlement here. When it came time to have a post office, he was honored by having his name incorporated into the its name. He served two terms as county clerk here in Lamar County, and acquired his title while serving on the staff of Governor S.W.T. Lanham.

The Woodmen of the World emblem is on the cap of this marble headstone. Emblems with a compass and square on one side and a cross and crown on the other note his status as a Freemason. "Dee Thompson" is in a banner in relief, and the inscription reads:

Born May 17, 1852,
Died Apr. 1, 1919.

---

Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.

Was the inscription legible?: Yes
