Esta estátua de D. Sancho I está colocada em frente do Castelo de Torres novas, ela feita de vários tipos de pedra e retrata o Rei dos ombros para cima. Ela é um pouco estilizada e maior que o real.

"Sancho I (Coimbra, 11 de novembro de 1154 — Santarém, 26 de março de 1211), apelidado de o Povoador, foi o segundo Rei de Portugal de 1185 até sua morte. Era filho do rei Afonso Henriques e sua esposa Mafalda de Saboia. Promoveu e apadrinhou o povoamento dos territórios do país, destacando-se a fundação da cidade da Guarda, em 1199, e a atribuição de cartas de foral na Beira e em Trás-os-Montes: Gouveia (1186), Covilhã (1186), Viseu (1187), Bragança (1187), São Vicente da Beira (1195) ou Belmonte (1199), povoando assim áreas remotas do reino, em particular com imigrantes da Flandres e da Borgonha."

This statue of D. Sancho I is placed in front of the Castle of Torres Novas, made of various types of stone and portrays the King from the shoulders up. It is a little stylized and bigger than the real thing.

"Sancho I (Portuguese pronunciation: [nicknamed "the Populator" (Portuguese: "o Povoador"), King of Portugal (Coimbra, 11 November 1154 – 26 March 1211) was the second but only surviving legitimate son and fifth child of Afonso I of Portugal by his wife, Maud of Savoy. Sancho succeeded his father and was crowned in Coimbra when he was 31 years old on 9 December 1185. He used the title King of Silves from 1189 until he lost the territory to Almohad control in 1191."
